BDE - La-Milla
  • Vision

The Jumilla region is highly regarded for its Monastrell grape, which produces rich and juicy red wine. With 5,000 years of winemaking history backed by archeological evidence, Jumilla's signature grape produces wines that exude both strength and elegance. It's no wonder Edgar found inspiration in this region for creating La Milla.

  • Vintage Notes

The 2022 vintage was defined by resilience and adaptability in the face of extreme conditions. A dry winter led to low yields, and while early budbreak and a mild frost season provided a promising start, an unusually cool and windy late spring created challenges during fruit set. Summer brought favorable growing conditions, but the vintage’s defining moment came with two intense heat waves, culminating in record-breaking temperatures over Labor Day weekend, followed by an unexpected rain event. Despite these hurdles, the vines proved their strength, and careful vineyard management ensured a crop that, while limited in quantity, promises exceptional concentration and character in the bottle.

  • Tasting Notes

The 2022 vintage of La Milla is a perfect example of what Willow Creek can do when it’s dialed in. On the nose, you’ll get layers of dark fruit—ripe blackberry and plum—along with hints of spice and a touch of earthy leather. When you take a sip, it’s bold but smooth, with velvety tannins and a richness that you don’t often see in a Mourvèdre-based wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon adds a nice backbone of structure, giving the wine a nice length and a little bit of that Paso Robles punch. There’s a nice balance of dark fruit, savory spices, and a touch of oak, making it both approachable and complex.
