BDE - Priorato
  • Vision

Edgar draws deep inspiration from Priorat, a region that has captivated him with its depth, complexity, and centuries-old winemaking tradition. His vision is to craft wines that evoke the same thought-provoking qualities—layered, expressive, and built for savoring. Priorato is his tribute to this extraordinary region, a Carignan- and Garnacha-driven blend that honors its roots while incorporating Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah for added depth and structure. Sourced from Paso Robles’ Willow Creek District, where warm days and cool nights create the perfect balance of power and elegance, Priorato reflects Edgar’s dedication to crafting wines of both intensity and finesse.

  • Vintage Notes

The 2022 vintage was defined by resilience and adaptability in the face of extreme conditions. A dry winter led to low yields, and while early budbreak and a mild frost season provided a promising start, an unusually cool and windy late spring created challenges during fruit set. Summer brought favorable growing conditions, but the vintage’s defining moment came with two intense heat waves, culminating in record-breaking temperatures over Labor Day weekend, followed by an unexpected rain event. Despite these hurdles, the vines proved their strength, and careful vineyard management ensured a crop that, while limited in quantity, promises exceptional concentration and character in the bottle.

  • Tasting Notes

In the glass, Priorato captures the essence of its inspiration with intense aromas of dark fruit—blackberries, plums, and a hint of licorice—layered over a subtle minerality that lends an earthy backbone. On the palate, it is bold and concentrated, yet beautifully balanced by fresh acidity. Carignan provides structure and spice, while Garnacha contributes vibrant red fruit and a soft, supple texture. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah add depth and complexity, allowing the wine to evolve with each sip. While approachable now, Priorato also has the elegance and structure to age gracefully over time.
