  • Vision

Tarragona was initially named Mi Montsant after the beautiful region in northern Spain that served as its inspiration. However, it was later changed to Tarragona, a nearby city that Edgar visited at the start of his journey in this stunning country. The region, which forms a 'C' shape surrounding the prestigious Priorat region, has a rich history of wine-making, dating back to the Roman period. Over the centuries, Catholic monks continued the viticultural tradition during the Middle Ages.

By the 19th century, Montsant wines were being recognized at universal exhibitions. The wines produced in this region mainly consist of Garnacha and Carignan grapes, with Tempranillo also being commonly planted.

  • Vintage Notes

The 2022 vintage was defined by resilience and adaptability in the face of extreme conditions. A dry winter led to low yields, and while early budbreak and a mild frost season provided a promising start, an unusually cool and windy late spring created challenges during fruit set. Summer brought favorable growing conditions, but the vintage’s defining moment came with two intense heat waves, culminating in record-breaking temperatures over Labor Day weekend, followed by an unexpected rain event. Despite these hurdles, the vines proved their strength, and careful vineyard management ensured a crop that, while limited in quantity, promises exceptional concentration and character in the bottle.

  • Tasting Notes

The Tarragona 2022 is a wine that draws you in from the very first pour. Aromas of hibiscus tea, caramel, wild strawberries, and black cherry rise from the glass, layered with subtle notes of orange peel and clove as the wine opens. Hints of earth and spice weave through, giving it both freshness and complexity.

On the palate, firm acidity and rustic tannins highlight its old-world charm, making it a wine built for both contemplation and the table. The Garnacha provides lift and brightness, while Tempranillo and Carignan lend structure, savory spice, and depth, resulting in a balanced and distinctive expression of Tarragona.
