2021 Tempranillo
  • Vision

This specific Tempranillo draws inspiration from the Ribera del Duero region in Spain, situated about two hours north of Madrid. Known for its red wines, this region predominantly produces 100% Tempranillo wines. Following the tradition of a Jove, which involves brief aging in oak barrels, this wine captures the essence of the region.

Similar to Paso Robles, the Tempranillo grapes from this area benefit from warm days and cool nights, ensuring ripeness while maintaining essential acidity for creating enduring wines. This unique climate contributes to the vibrancy of the fruit flavors and aromas.

  • Vintage Notes

Overall, thanks to a relatively temperate growing season, the timing of the 2021 harvest is about a week or two later than in recent years, with most growers pulling the first of the core white wine grapes in late August. While the region has seen smoke from wildfires up north, it didn't affect the vineyards in Paso Robles.

The ongoing drought conditions are presenting growers with a double-edged sword of sorts. The good news is the dry conditions this vintage created smaller, more concentrated grapes, which is ideal for winemaking. While yields are lower, it produces more flavors, bolder colors, strong acidity, and manageable tannins. These conditions have winemakers feeling it's an epic vintage for quality.

  • Tasting Notes

Our 100% Tempranillo all sourced from the Willow Creek District has a beautiful ruby color, this fruit driven wine welcomes your nose with notes of cedar, plum, and fresh leather. On the palate, flavors of black cherries, dried figs and tobacco and spice. This smooth wine finishes with soft tannis and white pepper, leaving you craving more.
