Tempranillo
  • Vision

Just before bottling, while the wine is still resting in barrel, final decisions are made that define its future. These three barrels were originally destined to become our 2023 Gran Reserva. But in a spontaneous, instinct-driven moment, Edgar made a different call: this wine would be bottled as our Tempranillo instead.

After tasting it again weeks later, he laughed and admitted he might have changed his mind — it had all the depth and presence of a Gran Reserva. Fortunately, that choice became your reward. What emerged is a Tempranillo that’s bold, expressive, and full of character, offering a glimpse into the thoughtful (and occasionally impulsive) spirit behind the wines we make.

  • Vintage Notes

The 2023 growing season in Paso was one the coolest since 2011. The season began with unusually heavy winter and spring rain. Paso Robles saw record precipitation, the highest in around 20 years. Recharging soils after prior drought conditions. Harvest started much later than usual. We didn't begin picking until early October continuing into mid November, making it one of the latesrt harvest in decades. Extended hang time alowed for more physiological ripeness and excellent retention of acidity. Yields were moderate to lower due to shatter during bloom and uneven fruit set. We believe 2023 will go down as one of the most promising vintages in Paso history.

  • Tasting Notes

    Aromas
Black cherry, ripe plum, and wild berries lead the way, followed by subtle earthy notes of dried herbs, cedar, and graphite. Beneath it all are gentle hints of clove and vanilla extract.

    Palate
Full-bodied, dense, and structured, with dark fruit flavors of blackberry, currant, and plum. Vibrant acidity and firm tannins carry the wine through the mid-palate, while well-integrated oak lends a silky texture. The finish is long, savory, and deeply satisfying.
